About Adam

ADAM SELZER works by day as an author of smartass books for younger readers, including I Kissed a Zombie and I Liked It and The Smart Aleck's Guide to American History (both of which were published by Random House). People try to ban him now and then, which is kind of an honor in the kidlit field.

But by night, he works as a Chicago historian and tour guide, with a specialty in ghostlore, crime, and weird stuff. He built a reputation for sticking to accurate historical information and keeping a skeptical head (probably to more of an extent than he should have - people don't always WANT to hear that certain stories have no basis in fact!). His experiences in the field formed the basis of his hilarious 2009 book for Llewellyn Press, Your Neighborhood Gives Me the Creeps: True Tales of an Accidental Ghost Hunter. He is now at work on a variety of Chicago history-related books, including "Speaking Ill of the Dead: Jerks From Chicago History" for Globe Pequot Press.

He has worked with nearly every company in the city, from Weird Chicago to the now-defunct Chicago Spooks, and now gives tours privately and for Chicago Hauntings. See his home page.

Adam is the author of more than a dozen fiction and nonfiction books, many of which are available from major publishers. His specialities are smart-alecky young adult books, Chicago history, and American ghostlore. Some of his books:
